Starla Griffin
Starla Griffin is Special Advisor, Climate & Development Finance, to the Sustainable Sovereign Debt Hub (SSDH) at NatureFinance, where she also serves as co-lead of the Secretariat for the London Coalition on Sustainable Sovereign Debt.
She was previously Special Advisor, Climate & Development Finance, at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), before launching her independent consultancy, Slaney Climate & Development Finance. In her current role as Special Advisor to SSDH, Starla supports workstreams to build the EM sustainable debt asset class, improve restructuring outcomes, and address barriers to capital flows to emerging and developing markets.
Prior to joining CIFF, Starla built an advisory practice assisting clients in recovering or monetising assets at the intersection of international arbitration and sovereign debt as Managing Director at Slaney Advisors, Ltd., a London-based consultancy. She also served as Managing Director at EMTA (the Emerging Markets Trade Association), where she oversaw EMTA’s currency derivatives market development and led policy engagement with the Paris Club, IFIs, and governments. Starla began her career in the international financial group of the law firm Shearman & Sterling in New York.
She holds a JD from Georgetown University School of Law in Washington, D.C., and a BA in International Studies from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom and serves as an adjunct professor at Tulane Law School.
